DIY Halloween Crystal Ball
Transform Your Halloween Decor with Realistic Painting Techniques
Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s time to bring out those spooky decorations! Whether it’s a plastic pumpkin, a foam tombstone, or a resin skull, many store-bought Halloween decorations can benefit from a little extra TLC to make them look more realistic.
Giving the Halloween Crystal Ball a Makeover
I recently purchased the Martha Stewart Halloween Crystal Ball, it is silver in color with purple mist inside the globe. I wanted to make it look more realistic for Halloween and not just silver in color.
Starting With The Hands
I decided to make the hands a green color, using Craft smart Paint Apple Tart color, I painted the hands. To keep from getting paint on the globe while painting, I would slide a piece of paper between the hand and the globe.
It took two coats of the green paint to get the hands painted. I then took black paint and painted the finger nails using a small tip brush.
To give the hands a more realistic look, I took some of the Apple Tart paint and the black paint and mixed them together to get a different shade of green. I then painted the knuckles and veins on the hands. Even though I couldn’t paint all of the inside of the hands it still gave the decoration a new great look.
Painting the Leaves on the Base
I then decided to used Deco Art Festive Green Paint to paint the leaves on the base of the globe. Between the leaves I painted the area with Deco Art Bright Pink.
Painting the Feet on the Base
For the feet of the base I painted them with Deco Art Metallic Splendid Gold paint. I also painted the rounded areas going around the base between the hands with the gold paint.
Painting the Top
For the top of the crystal ball I painted it with Deco Art Metallic Splendid Gold paint. I then painted around the edges with the Deco Art Bright Pink paint.
I decided to leave the skulls in their original color and did not paint them.
Conclusion
I love how this turned out and brought out the details of this Halloween decoration.
With a little effort and some basic painting techniques, you can turn ordinary Halloween decorations into impressive, realistic pieces that will wow your friends and neighbors. Not only will this enhance the overall look of your decorations, but it also gives you a chance to get creative and have fun with your Halloween preparations. Happy haunting!
