Create This 3D Layered Sea Turtle Mandala

With warmer weather approaching in our area, it reminds me of the beach. And my love for all things beach related. This free SVG Sea Turtle Mandala SVG is a fun design to create that you can display with your beach decor.  

3D layered mandalas are very popular and this is a great beginner project.

You can either display this 3D Layered Sea Turtle Mandala in a shadowbox or on a shelf.

Materials Needed

  • Black Cardstock
  • Kraft Brown Cardstock
  • Turquoise Cardstock
  • Teal Blue Cardstock
  • Gold Cardstock
  • Liquid Pearls – Sunflower
  • Barely Arts Glue
  • Foam Dots
  • Shadowbox
  • Design #1 in Free Library

Equipment

  • Cricut Maker or other cutting machines
  • Glue
  • Glue Foam Dots
  • Glue Foam Squares
  • Scissors to cut foam squares
  • Blue Lightgrip Cutting Mat

Materials

  • 1 Sheet of Black Cardstock 8 1/2 x 11
  • 1 Sheet of Brown Cardstock 8 1/2 x 11 Kraft Brown Paper 80 lb from Clearpath Paper
  • 1 Sheet of Turquoise Cardstock 8 1/2 x 11 100lb from Cardstock Warehouse
  • 1 Sheet of Teal Blue Cardstock 8 1/2 x 11 65lb from Clearpath Paper
  • 1 Sheet of Gold Cardstock 12 x 12 Recollections at Michaels, Gold with Glitter Flecks
  • Liquid Pearls – Sunflower

Instructions

  • Step 1: Cutting Out the Turtle MandalaUpload black layer of turtle mandala. (Check to make sure that the size of the layer is correct).
  • Next upload the kraft brown layer of the turtle mandala. (Check to make sure the size is correct).
  • Upload the turquoise layer of the turtle mandala. You will notice that this layer is for the shell of the turtle. (Check to make sure the size is correct).
  • The Teal Blue layer is the next layer you need to upload and cut out. You will notice this layer has several cutouts within it for a more detailed look. (Check to make sure the size is correct).

  • The final layer you will cut out is the gold layer. This paper has a shiny glitter look to it. (Check to make sure the size is correct).

  • Step 2: Assembling the Turtle MandalaOnce you cut out the five layers, you will start by placing glue on the black layer. See the photo below. Once you have done this, then place the brown layer on top of the black layer.

  • You will notice that the eyes are cut out of the brown layer.  The brown and black layer should match up.
  • For the turquoise layer. Use the foam glue dots, by placing them on the back of the turquoise layer.

  • After you have completed placing the round foam glue dots, place the layer on top. Gently push down, in order for the layers to adhere together.

  • Continuing to use the foam glue dots, place enough of them on the teal blue layer.
  • Now you can place this layer on top of the turquoise layer. Like before gently push it down in order for the layers to adhere together.
  • For the top gold layer, you will use foam glue squares. Cut the foam glue squares into smaller pieces, they won’t be seen once the top layer is in place. Then place them on the back of the gold layer.
  • You are now ready to add the top layer. Gently push down in order for it to adhere together. Using the liquid pearls put a drop in the center of each eye. Your Turtle Mandala should look similar to the one below.
  • Step 3: Display Your Turtle MandalaYou are now ready to display your Turtle Mandala. You can either show it off in a shadow box or place it on a shelf.
